A New Home in Fulton Market

When I founded Ballroom Dance Chicago in 2008, I wasn't thinking about opening a sound bath studio.

What I was thinking about was connection.

I had become increasingly aware of something that felt absent in modern life. Despite being surrounded by technology, information, and endless opportunities to communicate, many people seemed disconnected from themselves, from one another, and from the simple experience of being present.

Dance became my first response to that observation.

Years later, meditation, yoga, and sound led me further down the same path.

Yoga Sound Bath was never intended to be about escaping life. It was about learning how to be more fully present within it.

That philosophy remains at the center of everything we do, and it is one of the reasons I'm excited to introduce our second location:

Yoga Sound Bath Fulton Market
845 W Fulton Market, Suite 213
Chicago, IL 60607

Why Fulton Market?

Fulton Market is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in Chicago.

It's a place where old warehouses sit beside glass towers. Where creative businesses share blocks with restaurants, technology companies, law firms, startups, and established corporations. The neighborhood carries a unique combination of energy, ambition, creativity, and constant movement.

It's also where many people spend the majority of their day.

Over the past year, we've seen growing interest from professionals and organizations seeking practical ways to create moments of pause, reflection, and restoration amid increasingly demanding schedules. That demand has come from individuals attending public classes, as well as companies exploring wellness programs for their teams.

As those conversations grew, Fulton Market felt like the natural place for us to expand.

The location allows us to better serve both individual practitioners and the growing number of organizations looking to incorporate meditation, mindful listening, and sound-based experiences into their wellness initiatives.

In many ways, Fulton Market has become the corporate wellness home of Yoga Sound Bath.

A Different Kind of Studio

Our Ravenswood studio will always be our original home.

It's larger. It hosts the majority of our public offerings. It has developed its own personality over years of classes, conversations, and shared experiences.

The Fulton Market studio is intentionally different.

Located inside a historic loft building, the space feels intimate and surprisingly removed from the pace of the neighborhood below.

The building itself is mixed-use, with creative professionals, small businesses, and residents sharing the space. Like many older Chicago loft buildings, it carries a sense of history that newer developments often struggle to replicate.

There are exposed architectural details. Natural character. A feeling that the building has lived many different lives.

When people first arrive, they are often surprised by the contrast.

Outside, Fulton Market is energetic and active.

Inside, the pace changes.

The room feels smaller, more personal, and more focused.

The Sound of the City

One of the ideas we often discuss at Yoga Sound Bath is that silence is not something we find by controlling our environment.

Silence is something we learn to cultivate internally.

For that reason, we've never tried to create a perfectly isolated environment.

Like any urban studio, we occasionally hear the city.

A siren in the distance.

A truck passing outside.

A door closing somewhere in the building.

Rather than treating those sounds as interruptions, we often view them as opportunities to practice returning our attention.

The goal isn't to eliminate life.

The goal is to remain present within it.

Interestingly, the Fulton Market studio feels more insulated than we expected.

Despite being located in one of Chicago's busiest neighborhoods, the loft's construction and position within the building create a surprising sense of separation from the activity outside.

The city remains present, but softened.

It's there without demanding your attention.

The result is a space that feels both connected to Chicago and gently protected from its intensity.

An Intimate Listening Experience

The Fulton Market location was designed around a different type of experience than our larger studio.

Because of its smaller size, every class feels more personal.

The room allows for a deeper sense of connection between participants and a more detailed relationship with the instruments themselves.

Subtle shifts in tone become easier to perceive.

Long resonances have room to unfold.

Silence becomes more noticeable.

Listening becomes more intentional.

Whether someone is attending a guided meditation, an immersive listening practice, a sound bath, or a private session, the scale of the room encourages a level of attentiveness that can be difficult to create in larger spaces.

Our Corporate Wellness Home

As Yoga Sound Bath has grown, we've increasingly been invited into offices, conferences, retreats, and professional settings.

Many organizations are recognizing the importance of creating opportunities for their teams to slow down, recharge, and reconnect.

The Fulton Market studio allows us to support that work more effectively.

Its central location makes it easily accessible for professionals working throughout the West Loop, Loop, River North, and surrounding neighborhoods.

It also serves as a gathering space for private corporate events, leadership retreats, team wellness experiences, and educational programs focused on meditation, mindfulness, listening, and sound.

While the studio is open to everyone, it has naturally become a hub for much of our corporate wellness work.

Looking Ahead

Opening a second location feels significant.

Not because it's larger.

Not because it's newer.

But because it represents the next chapter of a mission that began many years ago.

The goal remains the same as it was in 2008:

To create spaces where people can reconnect.

To offer experiences that encourage presence rather than distraction.

To help people discover that even in a busy city, surrounded by noise, movement, and responsibility, moments of stillness are still available.

We're grateful to be bringing that work to Fulton Market and look forward to welcoming you into the space.

Whether you're joining us for a public class, a private session, a corporate wellness event, or simply out of curiosity, we hope you'll find what so many others have found before you:

A chance to slow down.

A chance to listen.

A chance to return to yourself.
