Who we are
At Yoga Sound Bath, we believe sound is one of the most powerful ways to work with the body and mind. It can loosen what’s been held, settle the nervous system, shift internal tension, or guide you into deep rest. Sometimes it’s soft and supportive. Sometimes it’s more direct. Sound meets you where you are.
We don’t use sound to block out the world.
We use it as an anchor within it.
We do not practice in a perfectly silent environment. There may be moments of external noise. Rather than resisting that, the practice is to notice and gently return. The tension is often not the sound itself, but the part of us that wants it to be different. Over time, something changes. Not because everything gets quieter, but because you no longer need it to.
When sound is paired with gentle, floor-based movement and meditation, the work deepens. The body opens gradually. The breath slows. Awareness sharpens. Sound moves through and around you while attention learns where to rest.
There is nothing to force and nothing to achieve.
The practice is simple. Notice what arises, and return.
Yoga Sound Bath was founded by Matthew Sove, Certified Master Clinical Hypnotherapist, Level Two Certified Sound Healing Practitioner, and RYT 200 Certified Yoga Teacher. After experiencing the impact of these practices in his own life, Matthew created Yoga Sound Bath as a space to reconnect with what often gets buried under the pace and pressure of daily life.
Each experience is designed with care, integrating movement, sound, and stillness in a way that allows the body to settle and the mind to shift naturally. Not by controlling the environment, but by changing your relationship to it.
In addition to his work in yoga and sound, Matthew is also a Master Ballroom Dance Instructor and the founder of one of the city’s longest-running and most established dance studios, Ballroom Dance Chicago.
Studio Credo
We live in a culture that teaches us to push hard, move fast, and chase goals without ever asking whether those goals are truly ours. We’re taught that effort is the only path forward. We grind, we strive, we perform. And somewhere along the way, many of us stop hearing ourselves.
We listen to expectations. To pressure. To the constant movement of the world around us. Over time, it becomes difficult to tell what is actually ours and what has been layered on top.
Eventually, we reach a point where we can have what we thought we wanted, only to realize we no longer know what that is.
Hard work and determination are not the problem. They are powerful forces, but only when they are aligned with who we actually are. When effort reflects something real, it becomes purposeful rather than draining.
At Yoga Sound Bath, we believe the work begins with returning to yourself.
Not by shutting the world out, but by changing how you relate to it.
We don’t wait for everything to become quiet. It rarely does. There is always something happening, internally or externally. The practice is learning how to stay connected to yourself within that.
Through movement, sound, and stillness, we create space to notice what is already there. The body softens. The breath slows. Attention has somewhere to land.
You begin to hear yourself again, not because the world disappeared, but because you stopped needing it to.
We are here to support that return.
